Not showing on Google Maps after reinstatement: what to check

Your profile is back, but customers still can't find it. Work through these checks in order before you change anything.

1. Give it time, but don't sit on it

After Google reinstates a Business Profile, the change can take a while to appear everywhere in Search and Maps. Google decides how long, and it varies, so there is no number we can honestly give you. Meanwhile, use the time to check the rest of this list instead of editing the profile.

Look from several places: a private browser window, your phone, and a device that is not signed in to your Google account. What you see signed in can differ from what a customer sees.

2. Check the profile is verified, not "pending"

Sign in to your Business Profile. Look for a notice about verification, a pending state, or anything that still asks for action. A reinstated profile that needs to be verified again will not appear in normal results until that is done. Complete whatever Google asks for and note the date.

3. Make sure the name, address and category are unchanged

Compare the profile with the details you appealed with. If the business name, address or main category changed after the reinstatement, whether by you, a manager or a connected app, Google may treat it as a new review. Revert anything you did not intend, then leave the core details alone. Make later improvements one at a time, with days between them rather than all at once.

Also check the managers and connected apps list. Remove anything you do not recognise so nothing edits the profile without you knowing.

4. Search by exact name first, then by category

These are two different questions:

  • Presence. Search for your exact business name and the town. If the profile shows up, it is live.
  • Ranking. Search the way a customer would, for example "plumber near me". If you are not in the list, that is about relevance, distance and how well known you are, not about whether the profile exists.

If the exact name works but category searches do not, the profile is back and the work is now ranking. Our guide on why a business isn't showing up on Google Maps covers that.

5. Look for a duplicate listing that won

Search Maps for your business name, your phone number and your street address. If a second listing for the same business appears, Google may be showing that one instead of yours. Typical sources are an old profile under a previous name or address, or a profile someone created while yours was suspended. Report the duplicate through Maps ("Suggest an edit") or through Business Profile Help so that the two can be merged or removed.

6. Re-check the website link and opening hours

Open the website link on the profile and confirm it loads and shows the same name, address and phone number. Check the opening hours, and make sure the profile is not marked temporarily or permanently closed. A closed or incomplete profile can be left out of results even when it is technically live.

7. Be patient with reviews and photos

Reviews and photos do not always return with the profile, and when they do it may not be at the same moment. Keep a note of the reviews you had, and avoid asking every customer to post again straight away, because that can leave you with duplicate reviews if the originals come back. Go on asking new customers for reviews after each job.

8. When to contact Google support

If the profile is verified, the details are unchanged, there is no duplicate and it still does not appear when searching your exact name, contact Google through the contact option in Business Profile Help, signed in as the profile owner. Explain it briefly: the date of the reinstatement, the business name and the case reference or email from your appeal, and what you have already checked. Don't open several requests about the same thing.

Common questions

How long until my reinstated profile shows up on Google Maps?
Google does not publish a fixed time, and it varies. Changes can take a while to spread across Search and Maps and across devices. Check from a private window and from a phone, and keep the profile unchanged while you wait.
Why can I find my profile by name but not when I search my category?
That is a ranking question, not a missing-profile question. If the exact name finds you, the profile is live. For category searches Google weighs relevance, distance and how well known the business is, and a profile that was just restored may sit lower than it did before.
My reviews are missing. Will they come back?
They sometimes reappear after reinstatement, but Google decides and it may not be immediate. Keep a list of the customers who reviewed you, and avoid asking everyone to repost right away.
Could a duplicate listing be the reason?
Yes. If an older profile or a profile created during the suspension exists for the same business, Google may show that one instead of yours. Search your name, phone number and address in Maps and report anything that duplicates your profile.
Who do I contact if nothing changes?
Use the contact option in Google Business Profile Help while signed in to the account that manages the profile. Mention the date of the reinstatement and any case reference from your appeal.
