Why isn't my business showing up on Google Maps?
Usually it is one of seven things. None of them needs an agency to check.

1. You are searching from the wrong place
Maps results depend on where the searcher is. If you search from home, 20 miles from your premises, you see a different list than your customers do. Search from where your customers are, or add the town name to the search.
Tools that can help with this step
Optional. A private window and the town name in the search are free. A paid tool only helps if you want to follow many searches over time.
- SemrushShows which searches you and your competitors rank for and tracks them over time; it is built and priced for marketers.
Some links to tools may become affiliate links. If you buy through one, SiteDokAI may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. We only list tools we'd suggest anyway, and our recommendations don't depend on it.
2. The profile is not verified, or it is suspended
Unverified and suspended profiles don't show up in normal results. Log in to your Business Profile and look for a verification or suspension notice at the top.
3. The main category doesn't match the search
If your primary category is broader or different from what customers type, Google shows the businesses whose category matches. Pick the most specific category that is true.
4. Missing basics: hours, website, phone
Incomplete profiles lose out against complete ones, and a profile without hours can drop out of "open now" searches.
5. Far fewer reviews than the businesses above you
Count the reviews of the first three results. If they have hundreds and you have a handful, that gap is a big part of the answer. Ask for reviews right after each job.
Tools that can help with this step
Asking by hand works. If it keeps slipping, a tool can send the request for you after each job.
- NiceJobSends review requests to your customers by text and email after each job, so asking does not depend on remembering.

6. Your website doesn't back up the profile
If your site doesn't clearly say what you do and which towns you serve, Google has less reason to trust that you are relevant for that search. One clear sentence on the homepage helps.
Tools that can help with this step
No website yet, or one that is hard to update? A simple site that says what you do, where, and how to reach you is enough to start.
- SquarespacePolished templates with hosting included, if you want a good-looking site without handling the technical side.
- WixA drag-and-drop builder you can try for free before paying, so you can see if building it yourself suits you.
- HostingerLow-cost hosting with a simple website builder, if keeping the monthly cost down matters most.

7. Duplicate or old listings
An old listing from a previous address or name can split your reviews and confuse Google. Search your business name in Maps and report duplicates.

Common questions
- Can I pay Google to show up higher in the Maps results?
- Not in the normal results. You can buy ads, but Google marks them as sponsored and shows them separately. Where you appear in the unpaid list depends on things like relevance, distance and how well known your business is.
- How do I know if my profile is suspended?
- Log in to your Business Profile. A suspended or unverified profile shows a notice at the top explaining what Google needs from you.
- Will fixing my Maps listing also help with AI answers?
- It can help. AI assistants and Google's AI answers draw on the same public facts: your profile, your website and your reviews. Clear, matching details make it easier for any system to describe you correctly.
